”But there is a spirit in man: And the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.“
Job 32:8 KJV
”But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:“ 1 Peter 2:9 KJV
To live by the proceeding Word of God, your spirit must be influenced by the Spirit of God. Until we have attained the stature of influence of the Spirit, we cannot enter the depths of God. Today let us discover how we can allow the Holy Spirit to have sovereignty in our lives.
A day ago, I was in bed praying when I was prompted to rise up from bed and pray. The prompting went on for while, but I was so sleepy I kept lying in bed to pray and eventually fell deep into sleep again. Later that evening while I kept my watches at a specific hour, I felt such hurt that I did not heed the instructions in the morning. I began to plead as the Lord directed me to His Word; grieve not the Holy Spirit.
The reason we find it so difficult to hear the voice of God is for the fact that we have been reprobate to His way of reaching us. The way God communicates to us is through our Spirits as seen in our first scripture of study. According to Ephesians 4:29-31, this verse refers to believers, who grieve the Spirit by inconsistencies such as in the context as spoken of in the chapter, corrupt or worthless conversation, and others. Lying, and corrupt communications, that stir up evil desires and lusts, grieve the Spirit of God. Corrupt passions of bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour, evil-speaking, and malice, grieve the Holy Spirit. Grieving Him, provokes the holy, blessed Spirit of God to withdraw his presence and his gracious influences. The Spirit dwells as a Sanctifier, we will be undone, should God take away his Holy Spirit from us. That was the earnest plea of the Psalmist. Cast me not away from thy presence (Psalm 51:11). Therefore if you hear His voice do not harden your heart.
Genesis 1:2–3 (LEB): 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light!” And there was light
The very same Spirit that rose Jesus from the dead, if dwells in us will quicken our mortal bodies. In the time of creation the Spirit and the Word were active bringing the light of God on the darkness that dwelled upon the earth.
According to the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, And the man who was raised up on high, The anointed of the God of Jacob, And the sweet psalmist of Israel, said, The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, And his word was in my tongue.
(2 Samuel 23:1-2 KJV)
The man whose Spirit is submitted to God, speaks as the Spirit empowers, does as the Spirit wills.
As in Eph 1:13, believers are said to be sealed “in” Christ, so here “in the Holy Spirit,” who is one with Christ, and who reveals Christ in the soul. Where the Spirit takes over a vessel and obtains this level of influence , man operates from his Spirit making the soul subordinate to the Spirit . That individual receives clearly the proceeding Word of God .
