Background
“Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.” Exodus 3:10-15 KJV
Good morning Beloved of God, are you one upon whose heart the Lord has laid a burden, is there a call of God on your life and you struggle doing that which the Lord beckons? Do you feel alone in what you have been assigned? Do you feel you have no one to support you and do you crumble in fear? Are you looking for an endorsement from men? Followed by our series on the Leadings of God, this current theme is to equip us in our confidence in responding to God’s call, let’s dive into the Word.
Moses was one sent by God, he had no one to approve of Him but God. He had many insecurities that could have held him back, but yet he prevailed. Moses was raised as an Egyptian prince, he was first with the very adversity he was to save the people of his origin from. Perhaps he battled the thought of being seen as a betrayer. Certainly in the palace were servants of Israeli orgine that served him daily. Moses could have stayed in comfort, he could have remained silent since he was exempted from oppression. However, where there is a burden there is discomfort in non-action. This may be you dear one. You see a problem the Lord beckons you to take action, but it seems and feels like there is nothing you can do, you feel stuck, and you struggle with these thoughts. But this morning I came to tell you, that it is proof that the Lord has need of you.
Irrespective of Moses’ insecurities he asked some very important questions every man or woman seeking to establish the purposes of God laid upon his or her heart must engage. You may be in doubt thinking what will people say or perhaps who has approved of you. Or who has even sent you, what is the evidence that you have been called? Moses’s journey began with an act many might deem abominable, in Exodus chapter 2, but after his encounter with Abba in chapter 3, there was a turnaround. Your wrong turn does not cancel you from being God’s agent for change. Moses had no predecessor or a leader to show him how to navigate his call, but God in revealing himself through an encounter gave him instructions and direction. The Lord revealed to Moses His identity and gives Moses an identity in Himself. The identity of God was made known in these words;’I AM THAT I AM’. This simple wording contains essential attributes and reveals the character of God which in Hebrew is ‘Yahweh’. Yahweh has these meanings, the first being that God is self-existent and does not depend on anything else for his own existence, second He is the creator and sustainer of all, thirdly that God is immutable in his being and character and is not in the process of becoming something different from who He is, as last that God is eternal in His existence.
The question Moses posed who am I, was answered by God giving His very presence, His Word, and making His nature known. In the words I AM THAT I AM, He begins to show Moses who he has been called to be. God being self-existent reveals both his dynamics and individuality, which unveils how he has made each person unique in His own way. The second is, His very Spirit is the very source that gives everything life and upholds all things living, and sustains every driving purpose. His integrity also unfolds, in the sense that when He molds men or makes a promise they are eternal and will not be thwarted. This is why apostle Paul made this testament; for in him we live, and move, and have our being, it is not he that commendeth himself is approved but whom the Lord commends(Acts in 17:28 & 2 Corinthians 10:18). So then it is for a purpose the Lord beckons, your uniqueness will unfold while you seek to journey with Him, your character will be formed and built in Him and his eternal purposes written afore time in the volume of the books unveiled. There is a testimony of Abba known to generations beforehand, there is a testament of His greatness which is known forever. He is the maker of men and you are who he says you are.
