The multifaceted Word of God (Part 1 & 2 )

All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.(2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Background

Many claim the Word of God to be an old tale or a book of stories, which some see as irrelevant in our time. From generation to generation, men seem to define and find facts to fall away from the truth. Hanging on to the myth that times have changed and that events today do not require biblical applicability. The verse above proves otherwise, many events the Word of truth informs us about, are unfolding right in our eyes in this present day. How much more than the morals and ways of life the Word requires for us to live? The purpose of this message is to shed light on the multifaceted Word of God, how applicable the Word is in all issues pertaining to life, and how the Word trains and builds us even in this present day.

I once shared a post on my WhatsApp status, when a friend made a comment about how people interpret the bible to suit themselves and how the post which was of biblical content was causing a misrepresentation. As often as I share some messages in my contact list, some receive many contradicting comments. Amongst whom it is easy to recognize, these individuals sometimes lack insight, and easy to notice their lack in the study of the Word. As the Word of God requires that we ought to study to show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth(2Timothy 2:15), many do not live up to it. The Word of God is diverse and applicable in all areas of life, as are the dimensions of God.

The Word

To understand the multifaceted word of God, it is necessary for us to be students of the word. Diving into the wording of this verse to show yourself approved, one must unashamedly know and understand the word( The Word being the scripture and the one who breathes the wording thereof). The Word is God. From John 1: 1-4, we understand that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. We are here informed of the ancient of days, how could we not believe in one who has existed before time? To be unashamed, how often do we as believers receive difficult questions about issues of life, from unbelievers with a contradictory perspective of God, and we are unable to provide answers or even find ourselves confused.

A timely Word and The power of the Word

The Lord hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary; he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. (Isaiah 50:4) In as much as the rest of the verse reflects that which our savior was to suffer in carrying out the will of the Father, this verse teaches the posture of the student of the Word, but most of all the life of Sonship. As Jesus taught us in this verse, there were the many dimensions of the Word of God displayed in the verse. A tongue of the learned, a word for every moment and every season. In Luke 4:18, Jesus manifests that which was spoken of Him in Isaiah, declaring; “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

As human as we are, there are moments we need a word of comfort, encouragement, or uplifting, just a word to lift our spirits or to fulfill an inner longing that cannot be explained. There is no other way to receive such a word than from the Word of God in its multifaceted ways. The word declares seasons and changes conditions. As mandated in 1Peter 3, we are to have a sanctified posture in our hearts and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks us a reason of the hope in us with meekness and reverence. This cannot be achieved when we have no wisdom of the Word. Jesus knew an answer to give whenever He was questioned by the Pharisees and all who came to Him. Hebrews: 4:12, For the Word of God, is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The power of the Word of God has the ability to change the state of any condition, right from the root cause. The Word goes beyond mere motivational speaking and inspiration, the Word is Spirit and Life.

By the Word of God things that were not, were called forth into existence(Genesis1&2). By the Word all things were made, creation came into existence by the spoken Word of God, dried bones came back to life by the spoken Word(Ezekiel 37), blessings were proclaimed through the Word and so were curses (Genesis 48). The Word of God that goes forth does not return void until it accomplishes what the Lord pleases, and it shall prosper in the thing which the Lord sent it. (Isaiah 55:11).

The timeless nature of the Word

The word of God can speak to the present, the future, and the past and present. In Isaiah 46:9-10, the Lord declares; “for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’” Just as declared, the Word of God cannot be compared to any other, in the circumstances of life, many are discouraged at times because of the lack of understanding and even interest in the Word of God. For had they known that the Word encapsulates every aspect of life, the ways of God as declared, they would have entrusted and lived in the harmony of the Word. God works in time but is timeless, He is eternity itself, and only one bearing such nature is able to determine the end from the beginning. Revelation 1:8 showcases the very eternal nature of God, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Knowing and understanding the Word takes knowing the very nature of Him who breathes the Word, understanding the context and all by the help of His very own Spirit given to them who believe.
