Prayer is the only investment that transcends time and never depreciates in value.
“And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”
Acts 6:1-4 KJV
The spreading of the gospel begun with a strong foundation set up by the apostles. In today’s world, we would call it legacy. While observing the acts of the apostles as seen in Acts 6:1-4, most especially verse 4, the apostles understood the significant impact they needed to pioneer in ensuring the gospel found strong roots. They understood the legality of prayer as a pillar to the work of the gospel. As the chapter entails, the diverse parts of ministry such as the taking care of the widows or as in church lingua today–welfare, as important as they were, these roles had to be delegated to ensure the apostles could focus on the exigencies of their call to propagate the gospel.
The highlight of the apostles giving themselves to prayer and the ministry of the word, connotes how these spiritual investments surpasses the boundaries of time. Though they may not be alive today, the investment they made carries on to many generations further, making the faith limitless, timeless and invaluable. This demonstrates prayer as a true investment that never depreciates in value and a true start of generational wealth.
