Confronting modern day idolatry – making a name rather than eternity

“And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭11‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house. But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet. Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭14‬:‭12‬-‭20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Life is not about you and what you can do but what you can align with God for. One of the ways we have conformed to idolatry is through our personal ambitions rather than the pursuit of God. The perception of our own ambitions have caused many to walk away from the life God intended for them. Our personal ambitions may seem as good ideas but their end is futility when the goal is not to glorify God but give us a common ground with the devil; pride.

In our scriptures of study today, we derive lessons from the Tower of Babel. The idea for the tower, many will consider good without understanding the essence and the reason for its end. You see Beloved, sin had entered the world, men were already bound and corrupted hence everything they conceived was deprived of any Godly trait. Their ideas were born in alignment with the seed of corruption as through sin, the devil had planted in them. This is where pride already begun.

The purpose of the tower was to the end that men would make a name for themselves. This is a practical way of serving the creature rather than the creator as seen in our last study. We serve self when our ambitions are to exhalt and adorn ourselves rather than extending the eternal purpose of God. The fall of man invented the idea of existing without God, thus enhancing the lack of partnership with God. As seen in Isaiah 14, the end of such is never glory nor becoming renowned. As through one man God began to rebuild the seed of righteousness, which shall remain. The generation of Abraham as the start of redemption reveals the impact of divine purpose . Abraham as a friend of God, birthed Isaac through whom this generation began. The promise of God to Abraham in Genesis 12:2 demonstrates that God has great plans for us, and His is better than anything we would or could imagine for ourselves.

“and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:”
‭‭

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

See here, that God’s intent is not to bless us to fulfill our personal lusts, but to extend his mercies from generation to generation. He desires for us to prosper as we are a reflection of Him. The ambition of men is always one with selfishness as center. Thus resulting in a world of pain and woe. The acquisition of riches by all means has caused the demise of others . When men can surrender to God, attaining a good name is one that will go down into eternity. Good morning Beloved.
